Women's Volleyball swept at Ithaca, 3-0

ITHACA, N.Y. – The RIT Women's Volleyball team fell at Liberty League rival Ithaca, 3-0 (28-26, 25-12, 25-21), Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • RIT jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set, including three kills by senior outside hitter Catherine Vento. The Bombers responded with a 9-2 surge for an 11-9 lead. The Tigers put together a 7-4 run to retake a 16-15 lead and later led, 21-19, before Ithaca scored three-straight points for a 22-21 edge. RIT scored three of the next four points for a 24-23 lead and had three swings at the set, including 26-25, but Ithaca scored three unanswered points to pull out the first.
  • Tied, 3-3, in the second, Ithaca rode a 12-4 run to a 15-7 lead. The Tigers scored the next two points, but the Bombers scored five-straight points to kick off an 8-1 run to build a 23-10 lead that proved insurmountable.
  • RIT opened an early 6-4 lead in the third and later led, 9-8, but Ithaca used an 8-1 run to pull ahead, 16-10. The Tigers scored four of the next five points to pull back within three, 17-14, but got no closer down the stretch as the Bombers went on to clinch the sweep. 

MATCH NOTES

  • Vento led RIT with eight kills while sophomore outside hitter Macie Jolliffe was second with seven.
  • Graduate student libero Hailey Blixt was credited with a team-high 13 digs, followed by Jolliffe with eight.
  • Graduate student setter Sydney Neff added 23 assists. 

WHAT'S NEXT
RIT hosts Vassar on Saturday (Nov. 2) at 2:00 p.m. in its final Liberty League match of the season. RIT would clinch the fifth seed for the Liberty League Tournament in two weeks with a victory, but would be eliminated with a loss.
