Favro and Harkless named Athletes of the Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – First year Kailey Favro (WHKY) and junior Josh Harkless (WRES) were named the Moe's RIT Athletes of the Week announced Tuesday, Nov. 5.
 
Favro scored two goals to lead RIT to a 5-1 win over Robert Morris, Saturday. She scored her first collegiate goal midway through the second period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead and her goal 3:53 into the third period proved to be the game-winner. Favro won 10-of-16 draws in Saturday's win over the Colonials.
 
Harkless won the 285 lb. division to lead RIT to a second-place finish at the Ned McGinley Invitational, Saturday. After a first-round bye, top-seeded Harkless defeated Derek Martin by pinfall eight seconds into his opening match. He defeated Rahmiere Bradley, 13-0 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the finals after Evan Anderson had to forfeit in the semifinals. Harkless downed Reid Garrison with a fall 6:31 in the championship bout.

Oct. 29 Sophia Bellina (WHKY) Julius Jakobs (MSOC)

Bellina made a season-high 40 saves to preserve the Tigers' 2-2 tie against No. 6 St. Lawrence, Saturday. Trailing, 2-1, after the second period, Bellina totaled 15 saves in the third as the Tigers came back to tie the game. She also made four saves in overtime. Bellina logged her sixth career game with at least 40 saves and first this season in five starts. 

Jakobs scored his first collegiate goal in the Tiger's 1-1 draw at Union, Saturday. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Jakobs came on and scored on a low shot off an assist from junior Selorm Dake to tie the game at 1-1.

Oct. 22 Rose LaDue (WS&D) Drew Scheib (MS&D)
 
LaDue finished second in two individual events and swam legs on two winning relays to help lead RIT to a 215-71 win over Alfred, Friday. The sophomore swimmer placed second in the 100 Backstroke (59.65) and 100 Freestyle (55.70) and swam the opening legs in the 200 Medley (1:50.18) and 200 Freestyle (1:43.09) relays.
 
Scheib won two individual events and was part of two winning relays, scoring 40 points to help lead RIT to a 223-77 win against Alfred, Friday. Scheib won the 100 (52.12) and 200 backstroke (2:00.17) and swam the opening leg in the 200 Medley relay (1:34.71) and the anchor leg in the 200 Freestyle relay (1:25.86).
 
Oct. 15 Bronwyn Khangsar (WHKY) Derick Koen (MXC)

Khangsar scored the game-winning goal to help lead RIT to a 4-2 win over No. 7 Colgate, Saturday. She scored on a loose puck in front of the Colgate goal at 14:38 of the third period to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. The goal was Khangsar's first of the season and second of her career.
 
Koen won the individual title at the Highlander Invitational, Saturday. The junior crossed the finish line with a time of 25:25.6 to win the race for the second-straight year while also leading the Tigers to their second-consecutive team title at the event.
 
Oct. 8 Olivia Harris (WSOC) Jason Trapp (MSOC) 
 
Harris recorded three goals and two assists to lead RIT to wins against Nazareth and Bard, last week. Harris tallied a goal and two assists in the Tiger's 4-1 win at Nazareth, Tuesday and scored two goals in RIT's 7-0 win over Bard, Saturday. Through 10 games, Harris leads the Tigers with 6 goals and is tied for first with 16 points. 
 
Trapp recorded a 2-0 record, a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage, last week. The senior netminder made four saves in the Tigers 1-0 win over Penn State Behrend, Wednesday, tipping a shot over the cross bar in the 68th minute to preserve RIT's lead. Trapp made a season-high seven saves to lead the Tigers to a 1-0 win at Bard, Saturday.
 
Oct. 1 Sierra Danieu (WXC) Mia Gerber (WVB)
 
Danieu finished 14th out of 255 runners to lead the women's cross country team to a third place finish at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan, Saturday. Danieu was the top Division III runner, finishing the 5k course with a time of 18:08.4. RIT was the top-finishing Division III team, tallying 113 points.
 
Gerber averaged 3.67 kills per set during a 4-0 week for the Tigers, including two wins in their first two Liberty League matches of the season.  She started with 14 kills on .524 attacking in a 3-0 sweep at Nazareth on Tuesday before logging a four-set career-high 17 kills on .317 hitting in a 3-1 win at Skidmore, Friday. She also totaled a match-high 10 kills in a 3-0 sweep at St. Lawrence before adding 14 kills in a five-set comeback win over Plattsburgh on Saturday for her eighth-straight match with double-digit kills. 
 
Sept. 24 Hailey Blixt (WVB) Daniel Gebura (MSOC) 

Blixt was named all-tournament after anchoring RIT to a 4-0 record at the Grove City/Westminster Invitational. She started with a four-set season-high 27 digs in Friday's 3-1 victory over Thiel before totaling 21 digs in a four-set win over Wooster for her sixth match of the fall with at least 20 digs. Blixt was then credited with 17 digs in Saturday's 3-1 win over La Roche before compiling 17 digs, including the 1,000th of her career, along with five service aces in a 3-2 win over host Grove City.
 
Gebura scored his second goal of the season to help RIT to a 2-1 win over Hobart in Friday's Liberty League opener. He scored on a header off a corner kick from junior David Brassie in the 42nd minute to tie the score at 1-1. 

Sept. 17 Elena Onodera (WSOC) John Lucas (MSOC) 
 
Onodera scored the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute to help the Tigers to a 2-2 tie at St. John Fisher, Tuesday, and scored five minutes into the second half in Saturday's 1-0 win at Plattsburgh. Onodera leads the Tigers with 12 points (4 goals, 4 assists) through five games. 
 
Lucas tallied a goal and an assist in RIT's 3-2 win at Keene State, Saturday. He assisted on Daniel Gebura's opening goal in the fourth minute to give RIT the lead and scored in the eighth minute to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. 

Sept. 10 Jessie Gomez (WSOC) Gabriel Escobar

Gomez scored in the 89th minute in RIT's 3-3 tie against Geneseo, Saturday. She fired a one-timer from inside the Geneseo penalty area off an assist from junior Roberta Moger to tie the score at 3-3. The Tigers trailed the Knights 3-0 at halftime, but outscored Geneseo 3-0 in the second 45 minutes to earn the tie. 

Escobar won the "C" Singles at the St. Lawrence Fall Classic, Saturday and Sunday. He beat Rahul Vallabhajosula (Hobart), 8-4 in his opening match, Saturday and went on to defeat Ithaca's Carlos Alberto Angeles Hernandez 8-7 (7-6) in the quarterfinals. Escobar beat Vivaan Gupta (Union) 8-6 in Sunday's semifinals, and defeated Hamilton's Cody Feldman, 8-1 in the finals.

Sept. 3 Sydney Neff (WVB), Derick Koen (MXC)
 

Koen finished first out of 121 runners to lead RIT to second place out of nine teams at the St. John Fisher Terry Rodenbeck Invitational, Friday. Koen covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 19:34.2 to best the field by two seconds.
