RIT Athletics Preview: Apr. 22-28

SOFTBALL
The Tigers went 1-3 this week losing both games of doubleheader against RPI on Friday (4-2, 8-0) and then splitting a doubleheader with Skidmore winning 2-0 and losing 8-3 Saturday.  

RIT travels to Alfred, Geneseo and hosts Union this week.

BASEBALL
The Tigers went 0-4 this week, losing to St. John Fisher Wednesday (6-0), before falling to St. Lawrence in a three-game series over the weekend (14-6, 4-1, 10-9).

RIT finishes the regular season traveling to Hobart and St. John Fisher, before hosting Rochester for Senior Day and heading to Rochester for a doubleheader this week.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Tigers went 1-1 this week, beating Allegheny 6-3 on Saturday, before losing to New Paltz 6-3 on Sunday.

The team of first-years Kira Kronenberg and Maya Clinard defeated Maria Lounder and Omega Ba, 8-0 at first singles. Junior Gabby Donohue teamed up with sophomore Anika Galkiewicz to beat Emiliia Grydnieva and Rei Etsumi, 8-6 at second doubles. Senior Abby Murray and sophomore Devon Mills took down Athena Drollas and Jillian Clark, 8-5 at third doubles.

In singles Kronenberg defeated Lounder, 6-1, 6-1 at first singles. Murray was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Ba at fourth singles and Galkiewicz beat Sydney O'Connell, 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles.

RIT closes out the regular season hosting William Smith and traveling to Union this week.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
The Tigers lost to No. 6 William Smith, 21-3 on Wednesday.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Tigers hosted the RIT Invitational this past weekend.

Sophomore Sadie Rose won the 100 (12.56), 200 (25.00) and joined junior Allison Regnante, sophomore Rania Sabri and junior Caroline Hill to win the 4x100 relay (51.15). Hill also finished second in the 100 (12.78) and the 200 (26.14).

Junior Sierra Danieu (18:10.54) led a Tiger sweep of the top-five places in the 5,000 while sophomore Abby Nautel won the 800 (2:23.36). Junior Emily DiMarco finished first in the discus (133' 7"/40.73m) and third in the shot put (38' 9.5"/11.82m).

RIT compete at the U of R Twilight event.

Friday, Apr. 26

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Tigers hosted the RIT Invitational this past weekend.

First-year Jack DeFeo (49.78) led a Tiger sweep of the top-four finishers in the 400. Senior Max Stein won the 200 (22.31) while junior Jonathan Jacobs won the 100 (11.07). The duo also teamed with first-year Tucker Haluszczak and sophomore Michael Sardo to win the 4x100 (43.10).

Sophomore Derick Koen won the 5,000 (15:09.48) while first-year Erich Brown won the high jump (5' 11"/1.81m). Senior Andrew Bernacki won the javelin (181' 7"/55.36m) as the Tigers registered the top-three performances. First-year Erich Brown (5' 11.25"/1.81m) and junior Bradley Baybutt (5' 9.25"/1.76m) went 1-2 in the high jump.

WOMEN'S ROWING
The Tigers competed at the New York State Collegiate Championships this past weekend.

The Pairs boat finished second ahead of Long Island and behind Ithaca with a time of 10:49.64.

The Tigers' Double boat placed third behind Ithaca and Long Island, and beat U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Ithaca's B squad in 10:20.26. The Novice-8 boat finished third behind Ithaca and Army, while beating Stony Brook and crossing the finish line in 8:58.78.

The Varsity-8 Boat finished in fourth in the preliminary round (7:33.94), before placing third in the finals with a time of 7:59.22. The 2nd Varsity-8 boat finished fifth in their race behind Hamilton, Marist, Smith College and William Smith, beating Rochester and St. John Fisher with a time of 7:57.72.

RIT hosts St. Lawrence this weekend.

MEN'S ROWING
The Tigers competed at the New York State Collegiate Championships this past weekend.

The Varsity-8 boat finished third in the preliminary round with a time of 6:39.74, before finishing seventh in the final (7:27.72). The Varsity-4 boat placed third in both the preliminaries (7:43.33) and finals (7:40.03)

RIT's Double boat finished fifth in their single race behind Dominican University's first and second boats, Clarkson and Rochester. The boat crossed the finished the course in 8:57.15.

The 2nd Varsity-8 boat placed second out of seven teams, beating Army, Union, Hamilton, St. Lawrence and Skidmore with a time of 7:05.76.

The Tigers' Pair boat finished fourth behind Clarkson, Rochester and Union, beating Long Island with a time of 8:52.91.

RIT hosts St. Lawrence this weekend.

MEN'S LACROSSE
The Tigers went 2-0 this week beating Geneseo 16-8 on Wednesday and No. 5 St. Lawrence 12-9 on Saturday.

Graduate student Jake Erickson tallied a season-high seven assists against Geneseo, while junior attack Clifford Gaston scored three goals against St. Lawrence.

RIT finishes up the regular season hosting Union this weekend.
