ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior attackman Ethan Harkins totaled four goals and an assist while senior midfielder Sam Bennett added three goals and two assists as the Tigers defeated Ohio Northern, 20-3, in the second round of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT opened a 6-1 lead after the first quarter, including three-straight goals by Harkins.
- The Tigers scored six unanswered tallies in the second quarter for a 12-1 halftime lead.
- Ohio Northern opened the second half with back-to-back goals, but the Tigers finished the game with eight-unanswered to seal the victory.
GAME NOTES
- Harkins and Bennet led 11 Tigers who found the back of the net.
- Senior attackman Eric Burbank scored three goals and an assist while senior attackman Jack Budway and sophomore midfielder Erich Acton each added two goals and an assist.
- Junior goaltender Alex Zborowski totaled five saves during the first half before sophomore Chase Strychaluk played the second half, totaling three saves.
- RIT out-shot Ohio Northern, 59-19, including a 40-11 margin in shots on goal.
- Ohio Northern committed 26 turnovers, while RIT only made 12.
- RIT finished with a 51-27 edge in ground balls, while winning 16-of-27 faceoffs.
- Fifth-year midfielder Nick Farrell won 11-of-21 faceoffs and tied classmate Connor Finneran with a game-high six ground balls. Budway also picked up four ground balls.
- Ohio Northern entered the game ranked third nationally in scoring defense, only allowing 6.35 goals per game.
- RIT is making its 26th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance, while Ohio Northern made its first.
