Baseball splits doubleheader with Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa.  – After being shut-out 10-0 in the first game, the RIT baseball team rallied to earn a 12-10 win against Franklin & Marshall in the second game, Saturday.
 
GAME ONE – Franklin & Marshall 10, RIT 0

  • The homestanding Diplomats got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning when Tanner Wolpert homered to right field with runners on third and second base.
  • Matt Hollender added to Franklin & Marshall's lead in the second inning with a solo shot over the right field fence.
  • Later in the second, Wolpert doubled to left field, sending three runs home to extend the lead to seven runs.
  • The Diplomats added three more runs in the seventh inning to wrap-up the win.

 
GAME TWO – RIT 12, Franklin & Marshall 10

  • The Tigers entered the sixth inning down 9-0 to Franklin & Marshall when junior Charlie Slaymaker put the visitors on the board by sending junior Jackson Rusiecki home on a single to second base.
  • In the top of the seventh inning with two outs, RIT reeled off eight runs to tie the game at 9-9. To cap off the scoring run, senior Randy Dodig doubled to left field to bring junior Caelan Kim and sophomore Dewey Rautzhan home.
  • The Diplomats regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Bobby Falese tripled to left field to allow Gideon Schwartz home.
  • Rautzhan tied the game in the top of the eighth with a single to drive in Slaymaker from second base.
  • RIT broke the stalemate in the ninth inning when Adam Marsh singled, driving in Dodig to make it 11-10. Isaac Breagelmann added an RBI with a single to left field as Rusiecki reached home from third base.

RIT plays the Diplomats in one game on Sunday (Mar. 2) with first pitch scheduled for noon. There will be no live stats or live video available for the game.
