Onodera and Lucas named Athletes of the Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior Elena Onodera (WSOC) and senior John Lucas (MSOC) were named the Moe's RIT Athletes of the Week announced Tuesday, Sept. 17. 
 
Onodera scored the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute to help the Tigers to a 2-2 tie at St. John Fisher, Tuesday, and scored five minutes into the second half in Saturday's 1-0 win at Plattsburgh. Onodera leads the Tigers with 12 points (4 goals, 4 assists) through five games. 
 
Lucas tallied a goal and an assist in RIT's 3-2 win at Keene State, Saturday. He assisted on Daniel Gebura's opening goal in the fourth minute to give RIT the lead and scored in the eighth minute to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. 

Sept. 10 Jessie Gomez (WSOC) Gabriel Escobar

Gomez scored in the 89th minute in RIT's 3-3 tie against Geneseo, Saturday. She fired a one-timer from inside the Geneseo penalty area off an assist from junior Roberta Moger to tie the score at 3-3. The Tigers trailed the Knights 3-0 at halftime, but outscored Geneseo 3-0 in the second 45 minutes to earn the tie. 

Escobar won the "C" Singles at the St. Lawrence Fall Classic, Saturday and Sunday. He beat Rahul Vallabhajosula (Hobart), 8-4 in his opening match, Saturday and went on to defeat Ithaca's Carlos Alberto Angeles Hernandez 8-7 (7-6) in the quarterfinals. Escobar beat Vivaan Gupta (Union) 8-6 in Sunday's semifinals, and defeated Hamilton's Cody Feldman, 8-1 in the finals.

Sept. 3 Sydney Neff (WVB), Derick Koen (MXC)
 

Neff was named all-tournament at the St. Vincent Bearcats Challenge after leading the Tigers to a 3-1 record while averaging 10.3 assists and 2.94 digs per set. She started with 53 assists for her sixth career match with better than 50 assists and also added 14 digs in Friday's 3-2 opening win over Bethany. She then notched 57 assists, 14 digs and eight kills to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 comeback win after trailing 2-0 to the host Bearcats. Saturday was highlighted by a 37-assist, 18-dig effort in a 3-1 victory over Pitt-Greensburg.
 

Koen finished first out of 121 runners to lead RIT to second place out of nine teams at the St. John Fisher Terry Rodenbeck Invitational, Friday. Koen covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 19:34.2 to best the field by two seconds.
