Mikrogiannakis set to return for fifth men's hockey season
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis will return for the 2024-25 season to use the fifth year of eligibility granted by the NCAA following the coronavirus pandemic.
"We look forward to welcoming Dimitri back for one more season," said Head Coach Wayne Wilson. "He has played a prominent role for our program the last four years both on and off the ice, and we look forward to having his leadership and experience around as we pursue another Atlantic Hockey Championship."
Mikrogiannakis has appeared in 122 games over the last four years, including all 40 during last year's run to a second-consecutive Robert DeGregorio Trophy as Atlantic Hockey regular-season champions, as well as the program's first Atlantic Hockey Tournament Championship since 2016.
Mikrogiannakis blocked a team-high 71 shots during the season, knocking down at least one shot in all but four games. He also logged nine points on two goals and seven assists, highlighted by a career-high three points – all assists – along with four blocked shots in the Tigers' 6-2 victory over Robert Morris (Dec. 2).
During RIT's five-game unbeaten run through the Atlantic Hockey postseason, Mikrogiannakis notched a goal in the semifinal-round clinching 5-2 win over Niagara, before scoring a goal and an assist during the first period of the Tigers' 5-2 championship game win over AIC.
A psychology major with a 3.86 grade point average, Mikrogiannakis is a four-time American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholar as well as a four-time Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team member.
RIT finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 27-11-2 record, including an 18-7-1 AHA mark to earn the top seed for the Atlantic Hockey Tournament. The Tigers went on to clinch its fourth Jack Riley Trophy and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history. RIT's run ended in the NCAA Regional Semifinals with a 6-3 setback to second-seeded Boston University in a game played in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
