No. 2 Men's Lacrosse downs York 15-12
VICTOR, N.Y. – RIT graduate student Seth Grottenthaler tied his career-high scoring three goals to lead the No. 2 Tigers to a 15-12 win over York, Saturday.
Sophomore David Charney and senior Clifford Gaston each had a goal and two assists while senior Nate Senez had two goals and an assist. Senior Ethan Harkins and fifth-year Michael Finneran each scored two goals
Graduate student Allyn French won 11-of-21 face offs and had six ground balls. Grottenthaler had five ground balls and junior Alex Zborowski made 11 saves in net.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senez and junior Chase Bruno each scored goals early in the first quarter to give RIT a 2-0 lead.
- Dylan McDougall scored to make it 2-1 followed by a Senez goal with 6:10 to play in the opening quarter to give RIT a 3-1 lead.
- Gavin Gismondi and Colby Berard tallied back-to-back goals for the Spartans to tie the game at 3-3.
- RIT ran off three straight goals, taking a 6-3 lead on Grottenthaler's second goal of the quarter with 26 second to play in the first 15 minutes.
- Nate Schilling made it a two-goal game with his goal early in the second quarter.
- Harkins gave the Tigers a 7-4 lead on his goal with 13:34 to play in the half.
- Gismondi capped off a two-goal Spartans spurt, making it 7-6 on his goal with 9:13 remaining.
- Gaston and Finneran tallied back-to-back goals to extend RIT's lead to 9-6.
- Davis Fisher scored for York to make it 9-7 and Harkins scored with 2:06 to play to give RIT a 10-7 halftime lead.
- Finneran scored the first of his two third-quarter goals with 11:28 to play in the third quarter to give the Tigers an 11-7 lead.
- York scored three straight goals cutting RIT's lead to 11-10 on Schilling's goal with 7:56 to play in the quarter.
- RIT answered with a four-goal run, extending it's lead to 15-10 on a goal from graduate student Ian Dinga with 1:08 to play in the third.
- Fisher and Schilling scored the lone goals in the fourth quarter. Schilling's goal with six seconds to play made it a 15-12 final.
GAME NOTES:
- RIT outshot York, 49-35.
- The Tigers were 24-of-24 on clearing attempts
- RIT won 16-of-31- face offs and had 31 ground balls
