ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Five members of the RIT men's swimming and diving team were recognized as 2023-24 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Individual Scholar All-Americans.
Junior Gellert Kish and senior Drew Scheib were first team selections, while seniors Mike Atanasoff and Neko Ferrara and junior Ben Sippel were a second team selections.
Kish won the Liberty League title in 3M and was second in the 1M final to earn Liberty League Diver of the Year honors. He placed sixth in the 3M finals and seventh in the 1M final at the NCAA Championships to earn All-American honors. The media arts and technology major is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection was inducted into RIT's Chi Alpha Sigma chapter.
Scheib finished 13th in the 200 butterfly and 14th in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Championships to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors. He won the 100 and 200 butterfly titles at the Liberty League Championships and placed second in the 200 IM finals. A chemical engineering major, Scheib is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection.
Atanasoff placed second in the 50 and 100 freestyle finals at the Liberty League Championships. He was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team at the Liberty League Championships and swam a leg in the 200-medley relay that placed second at Liberty League's. A computing security major, Atanasoff is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection.
Ferrara finished third in the 3M and fourth in the 1M at the Liberty League Championships and placed sixth in the 3M finals at the NCAA Diving Regionals. A cybersecurity major, Ferrara is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection.
Sippel placed second in the 200 and third in the 100 breaststrokes at the Liberty League Championships. He was a member of the 400-medley relay that finished second at Liberty League's and swam a leg in the 200 medley relay that finished second. A 2023 CSCAA Academic All-District selection, the computer science major is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection.
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet.
