ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with weekly accolades, announced Monday (Sept. 9).
Junior Gabriel Escobar was named the Liberty League Men's Tennis Performer of the Week, while sophomore Alec Turcotte and first-year Yu Tanimoto earned Liberty League Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week accolades.
Escobar won the "C" Singles title at the St. Lawrence Fall Classic, Saturday and Sunday. He beat Rahul Vallabhajosula (Hobart), 8-4 in his opening match, Saturday and went on to defeat Ithaca's Carlos Alberto Angeles Hernandez 8-7 (7-6) in the quarterfinals. Escobar beat Vivaan Gupta (Union) 8-6 in Sunday's semifinals, and defeated Hamilton's Cody Feldman, 8-1 in the finals.
Turcotte and Tanimoto teamed up to win the "A" Doubles title at the St. Lawrence Fall Classic, Saturday and Sunday. They defeated Korwar/Anderson (Hamilton) 6-2 in their opening match, Saturday before a 7-6 (7-5) win over Hobart's Gross/Fischer in the quarterfinals. Sunday, Turcotte and Tanimoto defeated Strandberg/Hill-Edgar 6-1 in the semifinals and claimed the title with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Hobart's Steiner/Linares in the finals.
