Women's Basketball surges past RPI, 58-44

TROY, N.Y. – First-year forward Ben Keyser-Cochran scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds as RIT earned a 58-44 win against RPI, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first quarter, the visiting Tigers went on a 13-4 run that stretched more than four minutes to take a 17-8 lead with 3:06 left in the quarter. The run was capped by one of senior guard Hannah Durand's trio of made three-pointers in the game.
  • Trailing 22-17 early in the second, RPI held the visitors scoreless for nearly five minutes to take a 24-22 lead when Calissa Tyrrell hit a jumper with 4:37 remaining in the half.
  • With 3:24 left, Durand drained another three-pointer to give RIT the lead, 25-24.
  • After leading 29-27 at the break, RIT were unable to put any sizeable distance as they ended the third quarter leading by three points.
  • The fourth quarter saw RIT pull away, holding the Engineers scoreless Sophie Costello ended the drought with 25 seconds left on the clock. The Tigers' 14-0 run spanned nearly seven minutes with Keyser-Cochran leading the way with five points in the final quarter.

 
GAME NOTES

  • A total of four players scored in double figures, including senior Hannah Durand (15 points), first-year Caroline Henderson (11 points), and sophomore Faye Kaplinski (10 points)
  • Durand's 15 point output is a season high. The guard was a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and finished 6-of-9 overall.
  • The win puts the Tigers at 6-5 overall and 4-0 in the Liberty League.
