No. 3 Men's Lacrosse outlasts Ithaca, 9-4
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior Alex Zborowski made 12 saves to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 9-4 win over Ithaca, Wednesday.
Senior Clifford Gaston scored four goals and added an assist. Sophomore David Charney scored a pair of goals and graduate student Ian Dinga tallied a goal and an assist. Graduate student Seth Grottenthaler and junior Chase Bruno each scored a goal, and fifth year Michael Finneran had an assist.
Sophomores Logan Fletcher, Adam Wong, junior Cole Teeple and first year Ryan Bullock each caused two turnovers. Fifth year Nick Farrell won 8-of-15 face offs and had five ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ithaca's Tim Rogers scored early in the first quarter to give the Bombers the lead.
- RIT ran off three straight goals, taking a 3-1 lead on Gaston's second goal of the quarter with 10 seconds remaining in the frame.
- Zborowski made two saves in a scoreless second quarter while Ithaca goalie Andrew Minard made seven saves.
- Rogers and Jack Giannuzzi tallied back-to-back goals for Ithaca, tying the score at 3-3 on Giannuzzi's man-up goal with 6:52 remaining in the third quarter.
- Gaston scored to give RIT a 4-3 lead followed by a Charney goal with 4:11 to play in the third to extend the Tiger's lead to 5-3.
- RIT scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter, taking a 9-3 lead on Charney's goal with 6:38 to play. Bruno, Dinga and Gaston also scored for the Tigers.
- Jack Pastore scored with 5:26 to play to make it a 9-4 final.
- Zborowski made five of his eight second half saves in the fourth quarter.
