Baseball defeats Franklin & Marshall, 10-7

LANCASTER, Pa.  – The RIT baseball team defeated Franklin & Marshall, 10-7, in the third and final game of their non-conference series, Sunday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the bases loaded in the top of the third inning, graduate student John Bagley singled up the middle to drive in junior Jackson Rusiecki from third base to open the scoring.
  • After a throwing error by the Diplomats' second baseman, junior Jarin Moses and senior Adam Marsh made it home to give RIT two more runs before sophomore Dewey Rautzhan was brought in off a double by sophomore Isaac Breaglemann to make it a 4-0 lead.
  • Franklin & Marshall took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bobby Falese singled to bring in two runners, giving the Diplomats a one-run lead going into the fifth.
  • The Diplomats extended their lead in the sixth when Falese doubled to send another two runners home, making the score 7-4.
  • RIT responded in the seventh inning when Moses tripled to right field, allowing Marsch and Rusiecki to score. The tying run came next when junior Charlie Slaymaker grounded out to let Moses come in from third.
  • In the eighth inning, senior Randy Dodig sent the ball over the right field fence for a three-run homer, giving the Tigers a 10-7 lead.

 
GAME NOTES

  • The home run was Dodig's first career home run and also the first of the season for RIT.
  • Moses finished the game with two runs and two RBIs as Rusiecki's two runs gives the junior a team-best six runs on the season.
  • First-year pitcher Ty Book got the win after striking out two batters and throwing a hitless three innings in relief.

RIT travels to Auburndale, Fla. to participate in the annual RussMatt Tournament where the team will plav six games starting Friday, March 7 against Bluffton. First-pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
