Four Tigers land Liberty League weekly honors
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Four RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with weekly accolades announced by the league, Monday.
Sophomore Katherine Killian was the Women's Lacrosse Defender of the Week and first year Maya McDaniel was the Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week.
On the men's side, senior Gellert Kish was the Men's Diver of the Week and first year Yu Tanimoto was named the Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week.
Killian had four ground balls, five caused turnovers and won 17 draw controls to lead RIT to a 2-0 record last week. She won 10 draw controls, caused three turnovers and had two ground balls in RIT's 17-14 win at Geneseo, Wednesday. Killian won seven draw controls, caused two turnovers and had two ground balls in the Tigers 17-10 win at Oswego, Friday.
McDaniel recorded a 2-0 record against Hamilton, Saturday. She recorded a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win over Hannah Apsey at first singles and teamed up with classmate Melanie Saborio to win 6-1 over Priyanka Challapalli and Hannah Walpole at second doubles.
Kish was the top Liberty League diver at the NCAA Diving Regionals Friday and Saturday. He placed second in the 1m with a score of 543.05 and third in the 3m with a score of 514.45 to earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Championships.
Tanimoto recorded a 2-0 record against Hamilton, Sunday. He teamed up with Alexander Sinclair to beat Charlie Sternberg and Nicolas Gritz 6-0 at first doubles. Tanimoto was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Anson Anderson at first singles.
