Women's Hockey names 2024-25 captains
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Bruce B. Bates Women's Hockey Coach Celeste Brown announces senior forward Megan McCormick and senior defender Mia Tsilemos as captains and sophomore defender Emma Pickering as an alternate captain for 2024-25.
"Our team is in great hands as we start the 2024-25 season," said Brown. "All three student-athletes embody what RIT Hockey is. They have earned the respect of their teammates and do whatever is in the best interest of the team."
McCormick enters her final season with 21 career points on 12 goals and nine assists. She played in a career-high 35 games last season, tallying a career-high six goals. The print and graphic major is a three-time AHA All-Academic selection.
"Megan has the ability to connect with every player on the team," said Brown. "She has the drive to get better and push her teammates to do the same."
Tsilemos played in a career-high 35 games last season recording career highs in points (8) and assists (7). She finished fifth in the AHA with a career-high 60 blocked shots. She scored her first career goal against Syracuse and was the AHA Defender of the Month for December. The photographic sciences major is a three-time AHA All-Academic selection.
"Mia has led our defense for the last four seasons," said Brown. "She is steady, consistent and reliable which are three of the hardest traits to demonstrate and adds wisdom and perspective to our team."
Pickering was a 2023-24 AHA All-Rookie Team selection. She finished fifth on the team in scoring (12 pts.) and was sixth in the AHA with 59 blocked shots. The exercise science major was a 2023-24 AHA All-Academic selection.
"Emma's focus and determination has spread throughout the team," said Brown. "She will help add to Megan and Mia's push to make our program better."
RIT begins its 2024-25 season on Friday, September 27 against Assumption.
