Women's Lacrosse wins 17-14 at Geneseo
GENESEO, N.Y. – RIT senior midfielder Lily DePalma recorded a career-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead the Tigers to a 17-14 win at Geneseo, Wednesday.
Junior attack Serafina Kiselgof tallied three goals and an assist and juniors Adele Jones and Morgan Nichter each scored three goals. Junior midfielder Grace Validzic had two goals and an assist, junior attack Jenna Bovenzi scored two goals and junior attack Zoe Heffernan had two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kiselgof and Nichter scored back-to-back goals early in the first quarter to give RIT a 2-0 lead.
- Validzic gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead on her woman-up goal with 9:55 to play in the quarter.
- Geneseo ran off three straight goals, taking a 4-3 lead on Rosemary Mahoney's goal.
- Nichter scored her second goal of the quarter with 3:21 to play to tie the game at 4-4.
- Olivia Luchetti scored late in the first quarter to give the Knights a 5-4 lead.
- Natalie Long capped off a three-goal Geneseo run on her goal with seven minutes to play in the first half to give Geneseo a 10-6 lead.
- RIT scored the next three goals, cutting the Knight's lead to 10-9 on DePalma's goal.
- Sophie Lyko tallied with five seconds to play to give Geneseo an 11-9 halftime lead.
- RIT outscored Geneseo 4-0 in the third quarter. DePalma scored the first two goals of the frame to tie the score at 11-11.
- Jones scored two straight goals including one with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Tigers a 13-11 lead.
- Geneseo tallied the first two goals of the fourth quarter, tying the score at 13-13 on Alaina Reina's goal with 11:18 to play.
- RIT ran off four straight goals, including a pair from Bovenzi to extend the Tiger's lead to 17-13.
- Long scored with 15 seconds to play to make it a 17-14 final.
GAME NOTES
- Geneseo outshot RIT, 28-26
- Junior goalie Ellie Ruddy made one save and first year Grace McDonald made six saves in her collegiate debut.
- Sophomore defender Katherine Killian won 10 draw controls, caused three turnovers, and had two ground balls.
- RIT was 11-of-12 on clearing attempts and won 20-of-33 draw controls.
- It is the Tigers third win all-time against Geneseo and first since 2015.
