Women’s Soccer drops season finale to Vassar, 2-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In the final game of the regular season, the RIT women's soccer team fell to Vassar, 2-1, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior defender Amber Flynn put the Tigers on the board first in the 6th minute. Coming off a corner kick by senior forward Rachel Marriott, Flynn headed the ball to the back of the net.
  • The visiting Brewers rallied in the second half, tying the game in the 64th minute from a shot by Noelle Namba from the top of the penalty box.
  • Vassar's Gianna Panarelli scored the game-winner in the 74th minute, sending a free-kick from 20 yards out on the left side over an outstretched RIT goalkeeper Emily Sanchez.

 
GAME NOTES

  • After both teams recorded seven shots in the first half, Vassar piled on the pressure in the second half with nine shots to the Tigers' two.
  • The assist gives Marriott 16 points (6 goals, 4 assists) on the season. Only senior Olivia Harris (19) and junior Elena Onodera (21) have more points this season.
  • Sanchez made six saves in the loss for RIT.
  • This was the fifth team the Tigers have faced this season that are either ranked in the Top 25 or are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Tigers have earned the No. 5-seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament and will travel to face No. 4-seed Skidmore on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Game time is yet to be determined.
