Women's Hockey ties No. 6 St. Lawrence, 2-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior goalie Sophia Bellina made a season-high 40 saves in the Tigers 2-2 tie against No. 6 St. Lawrence, Saturday.
 
Senior forward Kylie Aquaro and graduate student forward Nicole Ness each scored for RIT. Ness' goal at 3:01 of the third period tied the game at 2-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Aly McLeaod gave St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead on her goal at 10:30 of the opening period.
  • Aquaro tied the game at 1-1 on her power play goal at 16:48 of the opening frame off an assist from senior defensewoman Kyla Bear.
  • Abby Hustler intercepted a pass at center-ice. She broke and scored short-handed 41 seconds into the second period to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.
  • Ness stole the puck off a Saints defender behind the St. Lawrence goal, scoring on the wraparound shot to tie the score early in the third period.
  • First year forward Ireland Stein and senior forward Jordyn Bear each had shots on goal in the third period turned aside by St. Lawrence goalie, Emma-Sofie Nordstrom.
  • Bellina made four saves in the five-minute overtime to preserve the tie for RIT.  

 GAME NOTES

  • The Saints finished the day winning a shootout, 2-1.
  • St. Lawrence out-shot RIT 42-23.
  • RIT was 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Saints went 0-for-2 with the extra skater
  • Bellina logged her sixth career game with at least 40 saves and first in five starts this season.
