ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT men's tennis team will compete in the Liberty League Tournament for the first time since 2014-15. The No. 3 Tigers will face No. 5 Ithaca on Friday (May 2) at 5:00 p.m. at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell.
RIT finished 5-3 in conference play to earn the No. 3 seed. It is the most conference wins since joining the Liberty League in 2012. RIT is ranked No. 62 in the country and was ranked as high as No. 52.
SINGLES:
- First year Yu Tanimoto is 10-7 in singles competition. He finished with a 9-6 record playing at No. 1 singles and was 6-2 in conference play. He currently is ranked fourth in the NCAA Region 2 rankings.
- Sophomore Gabriel Escobar enters the tournament with an 8-6 record, including a 3-3 record in the Liberty League.
- First year Alexander Sinclair has seven wins in singles competition including a 4-3 record in conference play.
DOUBLES:
- Tanimoto and Sinclair have combined for a 14-5 record in doubles, including four wins in conference action. Seniors Grahith Movva and Christian Berko are 10-10 this season, including three wins in Liberty League play.
The winner will face No. 2 Hobart in the semifinals on Saturday (May 3) at 5:00 p.m.
