HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Senior Derick Koen led the RIT men's cross country team to a first-place finish at Houghton's Highlander Invitational on Saturday. Koen finished first out of 213 runners to win the race for the third consecutive year.
As a team, the Tigers have now won the Highlander Invitational for the past four years.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Koen finished in 24:42.2 to beat out unattached runner Jared Smith (24.45.9) and Lock Haven's Jakob Rager (24.49.9).
- Junior Jackson Burger placed sixth with a 25:05.2 clocking as senior Evan Owens took 11th with a time of 25:21.7.
- Junior Sebastian Montalvo finished 13th overall with a time of 25:29.7.
- Sophomore Brandon Blandino rounded out the scoring five for RIT, coming in 15th place (25:43.2).
- RIT scored 46 points to win the meet. Lock Haven (63 points) and Misericordia (77 points) completed the top three team finishes.

The Tigers complete the regular season next Saturday (Oct. 18) when they will compete in Oberlin's (Ohio) Inter-Regional Rumble.
