Women's Lacrosse loses 16-12 at No. 16 Ithaca

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – RIT junior Morgan Nichter scored five goals in the Tigers 16-12 loss at No. 16 Ithaca in the Liberty League opener, Saturday.
 
Nichter finished with six points, junior Adele Jones tallied three goals, and junior Zoe Heffernan had three assists and four points. Senior Lily DePalma finished with two goals and an assist.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Nichter scored a women-up goal early in the first quarter to give RIT the lead.
  • Ithaca scored two straight goals, taking a 2-1 lead on an Elizabeth Green goal with 8:06 to play in the quarter.
  • Nichter scored her second goal of the quarter with 5:06 to play to tie the score at 2-2.
  • Green tallied her third goal of the opening frame with 4:12 remaining to give the Bombers a 3-2 lead.
  • Ithaca ran off three straight goals to begin the second quarter, taking a 6-2 lead on Kelly Augeri's goal.
  • Nichter and DePalma tallied back-to-back goals, cutting Ithaca's lead to 6-4 on DePalma's goal with 9:40 to play in the half.
  • The Bombers took an 8-4 lead on back-to-back goals from Hayley Armstrong and Juliana Esposito midway through the quarter.
  • Junior Milena Stephen scored with 6:49 remaining followed by a goal from Jones to make it a two-goal game.
  • The Bombers scored four straight goals, extending its lead to 12-6 on Armstong's goal.
  • DePalma scored with three seconds remaining in the half to cut the Bomber's lead to 12-7 at intermission.

GAME NOTES

  • Ithaca outshot RIT, 38-32
  • First year goalie Grace McDonald made seven saves in net and junior Ellie Ruddy made two saves.
  • Sophomore defender Katherine Killian won nine draw controls, caused a turnover, and had four ground balls.
  • RIT was 13-of-21 on clearing attempts and won 19-of-31 draw controls.
