Women's Volleyball comes up short of Rochester, 3-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Women's Volleyball team fell to visiting Rochester, 3-1 (28-26, 15-25, 25-15, 25-19), Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trailing, 8-7, early in the first set, RIT used an 8-3 run to take a 15-11 lead. The Tigers later led, 21-14, but Rochester finished the set on a 14-5 run to earn the comeback win.
  • RIT led, 9-4, to start the second, before Rochester pulled back within one, 11-10, with a 6-2 run. The Tigers pulled away with a 7-3 run for an 18-13 lead and later finished the set with five-straight points to even the match.
  • The teams played a close third set before Rochester broke a 15-15 tie with 10-unanswered points to take a 2-1 lead.
  • RIT led, 14-9, in the fourth, but Rochester bounced back with an 8-1 run for a 17-15 lead. RIT later scored back-to-back points to pull within one, 20-19, but Rochester notched five straight points to close the match.

Lone RIT senior Jaqueline Witteman was honored in a Senior Day ceremony before the match.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT will play at tri-match next Saturday (Oct. 25) at Rutgers-Newark, taking on Brooklyn College at 1:00 p.m. before taking on the host Knights at 3:00 p.m.
