No. 3 Men's Lacrosse falls 17-11 to No. 1 Tufts at Callum Robinson Mustang Classic

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – RIT senior Ethan Harkins scored three goals in the No. 3 Tigers 17-11 loss to No. 1 Tufts at the Callum Robinson Mustang Shootout, Saturday.
 
Senior Nate Senez finished with two goals and two assists and junior Chase Bruno tallied two goals and an assist. Graduate student Seth Grottenthaler scored two goals and graduate student Ian Dinga had a goal and an assist. Junior Alex Zborowski made 14 saves,
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Charlie Tagliaferri and Brooks Hauser scored two straight goals early in the first quarter to give Tufts a 2-0 lead.
  • RIT ran off five straight goals, taking a 5-2 lead on Senez' goal with 4:03 to play in the opening frame. Harkins scored twice in the run along with  goals from Grottenthaler and senior Clifford Gaston.
  • Jack Regnery scored with 3:12 remaining in the quarter to cut RIT's lead to 5-3 and tallied seven seconds into the second quarter to make it a one-goal game.
  • Dinga gave RIT a 6-4 lead on his goal with 13:27 to play in the half.
  • Tufts ran off two straight goals, tying the game at 6-6 on Will Emsing's goal with 10:18 to play.
  • Harkins and Senez scored back-to-back goals to give RIT an 8-6 lead.
  • Jackson Redd and Garett Kelly each scored to tie the game at 8-8 with 5:05 remaining in the half.
  • Bruno scored with 29 seconds to play to give the Tigers a 9-8 halftime lead.
  • Matt Ettinghausen scored the third quarters lone goal to tie the score at 9-9.
  • Tufts ran off seven straight goals in the fourth quarter. Chase Beyer scored with 3:31 to play to give the Jumbos a 17-9 lead.
  • Grottenthaler and Bruno each scored inside the final two minutes to make it a 17-11 final.

 
GAME NOTES:

  • Tufts outshot RIT, 55-37.
  • The Tigers were 26-of-28 on clearing attempts and went 0-for-1 with the extra attacker
  • RIT won 9-of-31- face offs and had 28 ground balls
