Baseball gets past Bluffton, 12-3

AUBURNDALE, Fla.  – The RIT baseball team opened their spring break trip to Florida with a 12-3 win over Bluffton, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior Adam Marsh grounded out to second base to bring senior Randy Dodig home to open the scoring in the bottom of the first.
  • Junior catcher Roberto Reade added to RIT's lead with an RBI single, driving in junior Jarin Moses to make it a 2-0 Tigers lead through one inning.
  • In the third inning, Marsh earned another RBI with a single to right field, allowing junior outfielder Jackson Rusiecki to score. Marsh later brought home with a double to left center, giving RIT a 4-1 lead.
  • In the fifth inning, graduate student John Bagley grounded out to third to allow Marsh to score. Later in the inning pinch runner Dorian Stroud scored off a wild pitch to increase RIT's lead to five runs.
  • Marsh recorded a third RBI with a single to the right side, bringing in Dodig to make it 7-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Tigers scored three runs in the seventh to make it a 12-3 lead.
  • Senior pitcher Jack Sempervive closed the game in the top of the ninth, putting down the order, including a pair of strikeouts.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Marsh finished the game with three runs and three RBIs, finishing the game 4-of-5 at the plate for RIT. The run tally is a season best.
  • First-year Aidan Chouinard made his pitching debut in relief for the Tigers, striking out three batters while allowing one run off three hits.
  • Rusiecki and Dodig both added three runs for the Tigers.

RIT will play twice on Saturday (Mar. 8) with games against Fontbonne at 12:15 p.m. and Lakeland at 3:45 p.m.
