Women's Lacrosse downs Nazareth 13-11

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior Zoe Heffernan tallied six points to lead the Tigers to a 13-11 win over Nazareth, Wednesday.
 
Heffernan finished with three goals and three assists, junior Morgan Nichter scored four goals and senior Lily DePalma had three goals and an assist. Junior Jenna Bovenzi scored two goals, and junior Grace Validzic scored a goal.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Heffernan scored early in the first quarter to give RIT a 1-0 lead.
  • Validzic and DePalma tallied back-to-back goals to extend the Tiger's lead to 3-1.
  • Nazareth scored two straight goals tying the score at 3-3 on Julia Dietz' goal with 1:50 to play in the opening quarter.
  • RIT ran off four straight goals, taking a 7-3 lead on Nichter's goal with 6:17 remaining in the second quarter. Nichter scored twice in the run, while Heffernan and DePalma each scored.
  • Sophia Scialdone scored with 4:22 to play and Dietz scored with 1:13 remaining to cut RIT's lead to 7-5 at halftime.
  • Nichter scored the opening goal of the third quarter to give RIT a 9-7 lead.
  • The Golden Flyers scored the final two goals of the third quarter and the first goal of the fourth taking a 10-9 lead on Emily Paddock's goal with 11:16 to play in regulation.
  • Bovenzi tied the game at 10-10 on her goal with 9:57 remaining.
  • Heffernan and DePalma scored back-to-back goals to give the Tigers a 12-10 lead.
  • Liddie Hoare scored with 3:05 remaining to cut RIT's lead to 12-11.
  • Bovenzi scored with 2:09 to play to make it a 13-11 final.

 
GAME NOTES

  • RIT outshot Nazareth, 36-25
  • First year goalie Grace McDonald made seven saves in net.
  • Sophomore defender Katherine Killian won seven draw controls, caused three turnovers, and had six ground balls.
  • RIT was 15-of-20 on clearing attempts and won 18-of-27 draw controls.
