Men's Basketball picks up road win at Skidmore, 81-76

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Nolan Smith scored a career-high 19 points to lead RIT past Skidmore, 81-76, Friday.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first half, the visiting Tigers used a 10-0 run to take a 31-20 lead with 3:29 on the clock. The run lasted just under two minutes with graduate student guard Matt Caggiano starting the run with a three-pointer.
  • After trailing by six points at halftime, the Thoroughbreds responded with an 11-0 run early in the second half to reclaim the lead at the 14:28 mark.
  • With 6:56 remaining, Smith drained one of his five three-pointers to tie the game at 53.   
  • RIT scored a trio of threes from senior forward Josiah Turner, sophomore guard Brody Brown, and Smith to make it a 62-55 lead with 4:09 left in the game.
  • The Tigers managed to make their free throws down the stretch to hang on for the win.  

 
GAME NOTES

  • Smith's 19 points and nine rebounds are both career-highs for the sophomore. Smith hit 7-of-12 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. On the boards, Smith finished with eight defensive rebounds while hauling in one offensive rebound.
  • Turner ended the game with 17 points, which is a season-high for the forward.
  • Caggiano earned a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists.
  • Skidmore's Aidan Ray tallied a game-high 25 points to lead the Thoroughbreds.
  • As a team, RIT shot 50 percent from three-point range and a solid 45.1 percent overall.
  • The win improves RIT's overall record to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in Liberty League action.
