MEADVILLE, Pa. - The RIT Women's Volleyball team started the Allegheny Invitational with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-22) setback to Westminster, Friday.
- Senior outside hitter Samantha Cox and senior middle blocker Catherine Vento led the Tigers with seven kills apiece, while graduate-student libero Hailey Blixt totaled 10 digs and a season-high five service aces.
- Westminster started the first with a 10-4 lead, before RIT scored four of the next six points to pull within four, 12-8. Westminster rode an 8-2 surge to a 20-10 lead, but the Tigers scored seven-straight points, including four-consecutive Blixt service aces, to pull within three, 20-17. RIT later closed within two, 22-20, but Westminster tallied three of the final five points to hold off the comeback.
- RIT scored the first two points of the second, but Westminster bounced back to take a 7-4 lead. The Tigers scored twice, but Westminster responded with six-straight points to start a 9-2 run for a 16-8 lead. RIT pulled within six, 20-14, but Westminster won five of the final six points to take a 2-0 lead.
- Leading, 9-8, in the third, Westminster pieced together an 8-2 run lead, 17-10. RIT bounced back with a 7-2 surge to pull within two, 19-17, but the hosts forced match point following a 5-1 run. The Tigers fought back with four-straight points, but Westminster put the set away to clinch the win.

RIT plays twice on Saturday (Sept. 14) on day-two of the tournament, taking on Washington & Jefferson at 11:00 a.m. and Fredonia at 1:00 p.m.
