Baseball splits two games on Opening Day

SALISBURY, Md. – The RIT baseball team opened the 2025 season by defeating Alfred State, 5-1, before falling to No. 7 Salisbury, 10-0.
 
GAME ONE – RIT 5, Alfred St. 1

  • After three scoreless innings, senior Adam Marsh put the Tigers on the board with a double into centerfield, driving in three runs.
  • Graduate student starting pitcher John Arnold pitched five innings, striking out nine batters, walking three, and not allowing a hit to pick up the win.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Alfred State's Connor Keifer drove in Gavin Lasko with a double to right field.
  • Relief pitcher Dylan Joseph closed the game with a strikeout to earn the save.

 
GAME TWO – Salisbury 10, RIT 0

  • The nationally ranked Seagulls opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when Trent Waire used a sacrifice bunt to drive in Dylan Winebrenner.
  • Salisbury's Noah Burroughs extended the lead to four runs with a home run in the sixth inning.
  • Later in the sixth, the Seagulls' Alex Craig hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Waire, making the score 5-0.
  • With the 10-run rule in effect, Winebrenner ended the game with a single up the middle to allow Griffin Shirk to score the 10th run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
  • Senior pitcher Joseph Wozny took the loss for RIT after pitching three innings, allowing one run and no hits.

 
UP NEXT
RIT travels to Lancaster, Pa. next weekend to play Franklin and Marshall in a three-game series with two games on Saturday (Mar. 1) and one game on Sunday (Mar. 2).
