Men's Basketball holds off St. Lawrence, 61-56

CANTON, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Zac Ditzel scored a career-high 21 points to lead the RIT men's basketball team past St. Lawrence, 61-56, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Leading 12-10, RIT used a sustained 9-4 run over five minutes to take a 21-14 lead with 7:41 remaining in the first half. Senior guard Chase Dickens capped the run with a pair of made free throws.
  • RIT led by as much as 12 points when graduate student guard Mark Osime drained a three-point shot to make it a 48-36 lead with 13:20 left in the game.
  • The Saints regained the lead when Andrew Cowan made a layup with 9:19 on the clock, giving St. Lawrence a 49-48 advantage. The layup was a part of a 13-0 run by the Saints.
  •  Senior forward Josiah Turner made a free throw with 7:58 left to tie the score at 49 before senior guard Brock Bowen hit a jumper to give the Tigers the lead for good.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Ditzel finished the game 8-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. His previous best was 11 points against Gallaudet last season.
  • Turner and Bowen each scored 11 points as Turner recorded his first double-double this year.
  • Graduate student Matt Caggiano was credited with a game-high 10 assists while also scoring six points and grabbing five rebounds.
  • RIT's overall record improves to 7-12 overall and 3-9 in Liberty League action.

RIT stays in the North Country with a visit to Clarkson tomorrow (Feb. 8). Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
