Men's Basketball drops road game to RPI, 64-54

TROY, N.Y. – Graduate student guard Matt Caggiano scored a team-high 17 points while adding eight assists in a 64-54 setback against RPI, Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The visiting Tigers lead early on until RPI's Andrew Deppe gave the Engineers their first lead of the game six minutes in the first half.
  • Senior guard Chase Dickens put RIT ahead, 22-21, with a made free-throw at the 4:14 mark. Dickens would then score a three-pointer just before the half to give the Tigers a 28-23 lead.
  • RPI came back to tie the game, 33-33, with just under 15 minutes remaining with a layup from Chuck Clemons. A minute and a half later, Andrew Deppe put the Engineers in the lead with another made layup.
  • After another four ties in the second half, RPI regained the lead for good with 7:43 left when Avery Eugster sent home a hook shot.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Caggiano's 17 points are the most this season since scoring 26 points against Nazareth in November.
  • Forward Kenny Wilburn added 12 points for RIT. The graduate student leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 14.8 points per game.
  • The loss puts RIT at 5-6 overall while dropping to 1-3 in Liberty League action.
