Men’s Basketball falls at home to Vassar, 91-87.

ROCHESTER N.Y. - The RIT men's basketball team fell just short to Vassar, 91-87, Friday.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Vassar led by one possession early in the first half before graduate guard Matt Caggiano led a 9-1 run to give RIT their first lead of the game with 13:46 left in the half.
  • RIT managed to keep a lead on the Brewers with an 11-5 run going into the final five minutes of the half. Vassar answered with an 8-2 run to take a one-point lead before the Tigers scored four quick points in the final minute to take a 41-36, going into halftime.
  • Vassar took back the lead at the beginning of the second half after scoring nine unanswered points. The visitors continued to extend their lead into the final 15 minutes, going on a 9-4 run and putting them up by nine.
  • RIT stayed within 10 points going into the final three minutes where they scored 11 unanswered points to trail Vassar by one point with 1:33 left on the clock.
  • Vassar's Avery Lee made a layup and 1 with 10 seconds left, putting the Brewers up by four to seal the win.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Sophomore guard Zac Ditzel scored a career-high 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting with six rebounds in a team-high 37 minutes.
  • Caggiano finished with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting to go along with a team-high seven assists.
  • Senior forward Josiah Turner finished the game one rebound shy of a fourth-straight double-double after scoring 16 points as well as recording four assists and two steals.

RIT stays home tomorrow (Feb. 15) when they take on Skidmore at 2 p.m.
