Men's Basketball falls to Union, 100-98

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Four players scored in double digits as the RIT men's basketball team fell on the road to Union, 100-98, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the score 16-16, Union used a quick 7-0 run in slightly more than a minute to take a 23-16 lead with 13:48 left to play in the half.
  • RIT tied the game at 29 with a three-pointer from sophomore guard Luke Granto at the 8:02 mark.
  • Trailing by two points, sophomore guard Brody Brown drained a three with three seconds left in the half to give the Tigers a 50-49 lead at the break.
  • In the second half RIT took a 13-point lead over the Garnet Chargers when graduate student guard Matt Caggiano hit a step-back jumper, making the score 87-74.
  • Union took the lead with 1:50 left to play after using an extended 11-0 run that was capped off by a three-pointer from Christian Dufort to make the score 96-93.
  • Sophomore guard Zac Ditzel tied the game with a three-point shot of his own less than 20 seconds later, but Union scored four of the last six points of the contest to secure the win.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Ditzel and senior forward Josiah Turner each scored a team-high 17 points.
  • Senior guard Brock Bowen added 15 points after going 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.
  • Brown chipped in 14 points as Caggiano added nine points and eight assists for RIT.
  • Both teams shot better than 52 percent from the field as the Tigers finished the game shooting an even 50 percent (19-of-38) from three-point range.
