Women's Lacrosse loses 12-10 to No. 10 William Smith
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior Morgan Nichter scored six goals and recorded her 100th career point in the Tigers 12-10 loss to No. 10 William Smith, Wednesday.
Senior Lily DePalma had three assists and junior Jenna Bovenzi had two assists. Juniors Milena Stephen, Grace Validzic and Kate Trojan and sophomore Zoe Heffernan each scored a goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nichter scored the first two goals of the game, giving RIT a 2-0 lead on her tally with 10:57 remaining in the opening frame.
- William Smith ran off five straight goals, taking a 5-2 lead on Mia Falco's goal with 1:34 to play in the quarter.
- Stephen scored for the Tigers with three seconds to play in the first to cut the Heron's lead to 5-3.
- Heffernan tallied a woman-up goal early in the second quarter to cut William Smith's lead to 5-4 and Valdizic tied the score at 5-5 on her goal off an assist from DePalma with 10:46 to play in the first half.
- The Herons scored five straight goals, including a goal from Falco with 57 seconds to play in the half to give William Smith a 9-5 lead at the intermission.
- Katherine Murray scored her sixth goal of the game with 10:43 to play in the third quarter to increase William Smith's lead to 10-5.
- Nichter scored back-to-back goals, cutting the Heron's lead to 10-7 on her goal with 9:41 remaining in the third.
- Natalie Daniels scored with 19 seconds remaining in the quarter to give William Smith an 11-7 lead.
- Nichter scored her fifth goal of the game with 8:43 to play in the fourth period to cut William Smith's lead to 11-8.
- Lauren Collins scored to make it 12-8 followed by a goal from Trojan with 6:31 remaining to make it 12-9.
- Nichter scored her sixth goal of the game with 3:55 to play to make it a 12-10 final.
