Men's Hockey introduces incoming class for 2024-25

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Head Coach Wayne Wilson announced the 10 newest members of the RIT Men's Hockey program who will be joining the squad for the 2024-25 season. Three transfers and seven first-year players comprise the latest group of individuals who will pull a Tiger sweater on for the first time this coming year.

"I'm excited about our newest class of players joining the squad for this coming season," said Wilson, the 2024 Atlantic Hockey America Coach of the Year who enters his 26th season behind the Tiger bench. "Associate Head Coaches Brian Hills and Dave Insalaco always work hard to finding student-athletes who will bring a high level of competitiveness on the ice while also achieving at a high level in the classroom and this year's class is no exception."

Nick Cafarelli – Forward – Middleton, Mass. – New Hampshire (Hockey East)

Coach Wilson Says

: "Nick comes to us after four years at the University of New Hampshire, playing 82 games and totaling 35 points (13G/22A) during his time with the Wildcats. He played both center and wing and was also part of UNH's power play and penalty kill, including a power play goal and assist in our home series last year. We will look to him to provide experience and add leadership to a great returning core."

Trent Burnham – Goaltender – Eagle River, Alaska – Lindenwood (NCAA DI Independent)

Coach Wilson Says

: "Trent comes to us from Lindenwood University after appearing in 43 games during the Lions' first two seasons at the Division-I level. In 27 games as the starter last year, he finished with a .905 save percentage while averaging over 35 saves per game, including eight appearances with better than 40 saves. Trent totaled 51 saves in a 3-3 tie at Wisconsin and also stopped 64 shots opposite Western Michigan for the nation's highest single-game performance of the season. A very sound technical goalie with great fundamentals, Trent was invited to attend development camp with the St Louis Blues the last two summers and we will look for him to add experience to our young goaltending group."

Kevin Marx Noren – Forward – Knivsta, Sweden – Northern Michigan (CCHA)

Coach Wilson Says

: "Kevin comes to us after a very successful rookie season at Northern Michigan University. He finished fifth for the Wildcats with 17 points, totaling four goals and 13 assists in 30 appearances. Kevin is an effective player in both even-strength and power play situations and we expect another big step in his development and on-ice contributions following a strong first year of college hockey."

Tristan Allen - Defenseman - Kamloops, British Columbia – Salmon Arm Silverbacks (BCHL)

Coach Insalaco Say

s: Tristan is an excellent skating and smart offensive defenseman who can make plays, facilitate offensively both off the rush and at the offensive zone blue line and possesses all the tools to run an effective power play at the Division-I level. Allen spent the last four years playing in the BCHL, including the previous two with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. He had his most productive season last year, finishing as the second-leading defenseman in the league with 46 points (7G/39A) in 52 games on his way to a second-team all-star nod and an invite to play in the BCHL All-Star game. He was also instrumental in the team's run to the BCHL Interior Division final.

Mathieu Cobetto-Roy – Forward - Montreal, Quebec – Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL)

Coach Hills Says

: Mathieu is a fast and skilled centerman with very good vision and shooting skills, has very good poise with the puck and passes extremely well. Mathieu spent the last three seasons in the BCHL, most recently tying for 15th in the league with 51 points (27G/24A) in 50 games during his second season with the Trail Smoke Eaters. Known as both a goal scorer and a playmaker, he is also known as a 200-foot player who also competes hard defensively. We envision Mathieu to be a very exciting player for the Tigers who should be able to contribute during his first year at both ends of the rink.

Mason Croucher – Defenseman – Victoria, British Columbia – Alberni Bulldogs (BCHL)

Coach Hills Says

: Mason is a very good all-around defenseman. He is an excellent and powerful skater who is very good both defensively and offensively. As a d-man with very good feet, he is an excellent defender both off the rush and down low in the defensive zone. This past year with the Alberni Bulldogs, Mason also totaled 30 points, including 12 goals with ranked third in the BCHL among defensemen, which can be attributed to his shooting ability. He has a very good wrist shot and one-timer. Mason also has very good strength and a number of BCHL coaches commented on how hard he is to play against due to his strength and high compete level. With his abilities, Mason will be very well-suited for the RIT mentality of playing a hard, fast and skilled game.

Ethan David – Goaltender – Vancouver, British Columbia – Vernon Vipers (BCHL)

Coach Insalaco Says

: Ethan is a technically sound and athletic goaltender who will immediately be in the mix for playing time this coming season. He made 83 appearances over the last three seasons for the Vernon Vipers winning 44 games along with 10 in the postseason. He most recently put together an exceptional BCHL playoff run, posting a 2.48 GAA and a .931 save percentage in 10 games while also being selected to play in the BCHL All-Star Game.

Jakub Krbecek – Goaltender - Prague, Czech Republic – Philadelphia Rebels (NAHL)

Coach Hills Says

: Jakub has good size and has very good feet, which allow him to move laterally very well. His anticipatory skills are very good due to his ability to read plays in front of him and he is also patient in net and has very good athleticism. He has had very consistent numbers over the last two seasons with the NAHL Philadelphia Rebels, including a .921 save percentage and a 2.27 goals against average last season, which is something we look for when we recruit goaltenders. Our first ever player from the Czechia, he is known as a fierce competitor and we expect him to compete for the number-one spot this season.

Ty Whyte – Forward - North Gower, Ontario – Kemptville 73's (CCHL)

Coach Hills Says

: Ty has exceptional speed along with a very high compete level. He is not afraid to go to the dirty areas, will take pucks hard to the net, loves to get in on the forecheck and will finish checks. Ty's third season with the Kemptville 73's was cut short last year following a season-ending injury, but he was leading the CCHL in scoring with 33 points on 18 goals and 15 assists in only 19 games. He also had 25 goals and 41 points in 52 games the previous season. Ty is well known for his aggressive style of play and the energy he brings to the game. He backchecks just as hard as he forechecks and is constantly putting the other team under pressure. His style of play will fit in quite well with the Tigers.

Ryan Williams – Defenseman - Pleasantville, Ohio – Janesville Jets (NAHL)

Coach Insalaco Says

: Ryan is big and mobile two-way defensemen that possess the ability to shut down the opposing team's top players, while possessing the essential skating, hockey sense and offensive skill set to assist in creating offense both 5-on-5 and on the power play. He played the last two seasons with the Janesville Jets, most recently finishing sixth among defensemen in the NAHL with 23 points on two goals and 21 assists while skating in only 28 games.
