ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior Clifford Gaston scored six goals to lead the No. 2 Tigers to an 18-5 win over Nazareth, Wednesday.
Senior attack Nate Senez tallied two goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder David Charney scored two goals and junior attack Tyson Allison finished with a goal and two assists. Graduate student midfielder Ian Dinga and senior Jack Budway each had two assists.
Senior midfielder Connor Finneran had five ground balls. Graduate student Allyn French won 8-of-15 faceoffs, and fifth-year Nick Farrell won 6-of-8 draws and had five ground balls. Junior goalie Alex Zborowski made nine saves, while sophomore Chase Strychaluk made eight saves in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- RIT led 4-0 after the first quarter and 10-2 at halftime.
- Gaston scored five goals in the opening half, including four in the second quarter.
- RIT scored the last five goals of the first half, including two straight from Gaston to give the Tigers an eight-goal lead at intermission.
- RIT scored the first three goals of the third quarter, extending its lead to 13-2 on Senez' goal with 9:51 to play in the frame.
- Senez and sophomore midfielder Nick DiLauro scored back-to-back goals late in the third to give RIT a 15-3 lead.
- Nazareth's Quinn McKercher scored two straight goals in the closing minutes of the third to cut the deficit to 15-5.
- Gaston, Allison and sophomore midfielder Erich Acton each scored in the fourth quarter, while Matthew Farrington scored inside the final minute for Nazareth to make it an 18-6 final.
