Four Tigers land Liberty League weekly honors
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Four RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with weekly honors announced by the league, Monday. Senior Clifford Gaston was named the Men's Lacrosse Offensive Performer of the Week. Seniors Grahith Movva and Christian Berko were named the Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week and first year Yu Tanimoto was selected the Men's Tennis Rookie Performer of the Week.
Gaston tied his career-high scoring seven goals to lead RIT to a 20-12 win over Skidmore. He scored five goals in the first quarter and shot 11-of-13 and had two ground balls and an assist. Gaston is the third player in program history to score 200 career goals.
Movva and Berko recorded a 2-0 record last week to help lead RIT to a pair of Liberty League wins. The duo beat Edvin Strandberg and John Hill-Edgar 6-4 in Saturday's 4-3 win over St. Lawrence. Movva and Berko defeated Yuval Goodman and Griffin Biernat 7-6 in Sunday's 4-3 win over Skidmore.
Tanimoto recorded a 2-0 record in singles and a 2-0 record in doubles to help RIT to a pair of Liberty League wins. Tanimoto beat Edvin Strandberg 6-4, 6-1 and he and Alexander Sinclair defeated Sebastian Boada and Willem Naughton 7-5 in the Tiger's 4-3 win over St. Lawrence, Saturday. He and Sinclair beat Skidmore's Harrison Gradin and Kyle Lundberg 6-3 and Tanimoto clinched the match with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over Yuval Goodman to lead RIT to a 4-3 win over the Thoroughbreds, Sunday.
