Men's Tennis wins two titles at St. Lawrence Fall Classic
| Box Score 2 CANTON, N.Y. – RIT junior Gabriel Escobar won the "C" Singles title and sophomore Alec Turcotte, and first-year Yu Tanimoto won the "A" Doubles title at the St. Lawrence Fall Classic, Saturday and Sunday.
Escobar took down Rahul Vallabhajosula (Hobart), 8-4 in his opening match in "C" Singles. He went on to beat Carlos Alberto Angeles Hernandez (Ithaca) 8-7 (8-6) in the quarterfinals. Escobar defeated Vivaan Gupta (Union), 8-6 in Sunday's semifinals, and took down Coby Feldman (Hamilton) 8-1 in the finals.
Turcotte and Tanimoto defeated Korwar/Anderson (Hamilton), 6-2 in their opening match in "A" Doubles and went on to beat Grosso/Fischer (Hobart) 7-6 (7-5) in the quarterfinals. Sunday, the duo took down Strandberg/Hill-Edgar (SLU) 6-1 in the semifinals and claimed the title with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Steiner/Linares (Hobart) in the finals.
Turcotte defeated Broderick Pinto (SLU), 8-3 in his opening match at "A" Singles and beat Hamilton's Lleyton Mendieta, 8-4 in the quarterfinals. Sunday, Turcotte beat Krish Vennam, 8-2 in the semifinals before an 8-2 loss to Connor Griff (Hamilton), 8-2 in the finals.
Escobar and senior Joel Pho defeated Weigt/Olmos (Hobart), 6-4 in their "B" Doubles match before a 6-4 win over Saxe/Bellemare (Union) in the quarterfinals. Sunday, the duo defeated Rovi/Chu (Rochester) 6-4 in the semifinals before a 6-4 loss to Sternberg/Fernandez Lecaroz (Hamilton) in the finals.
RIT returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 14) at Nazareth at 1:00 p.m.
