Women's Basketball defeats Union in OT, 64-63

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Maddy Ramsgard led the RIT women's basketball team with a double-double to defeat Union in overtime, 64-63, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With RIT leading 13-9 with 4:40 left in the first quarter, Union went on an 11-0 run that stretched into the second quarter to give the Garnet Chargers a 20-13 lead just 14 seconds into the second quarter.
  • RIT's largest lead of the game came early in the fourth quarter after senior Kaitlyn Bockelman hit a step-back jumper to put the visitors up by eight points.
  • With the Tigers leading 53-47 with less than five minutes left in regulation, Union scored the final six points to take the game into overtime.
  • In the extra period, the Tigers went 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
  • Union had a chance to send the game into a second overtime when Jelena Perovic hit the front end of a pair of free throws with one second left on the clock. Ramsgard grabbed the rebound on the second attempt to seal the win.

GAME NOTES

  • Ramsgard shot 6-of-12 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe to lead the Tigers with 15 points to go along with nine rebounds.
  • First-year forward Ben Keyser-Cochran added 14 points as senior guard Hannah Durand chipped in 12 points.  
  • The win puts RIT at 13-11 overall and 11-6 in league play.
