Women’s Basketball visits top-seed Ithaca in Liberty League semifinals

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's basketball team travels to take on Ithaca in the Liberty League Tournament semifinals tomorrow (Feb. 28) at 5:30 p.m.
 
HOW THEY GOT HERE

  • The fourth-seeded Tigers defeated fifth-seeded St. Lawrence in the quarterfinals at home on Tuesday, 78-68.
  • Ithaca clinched the Liberty League regular season title and is the top-seed in the tournament. The Bombers are riding a 15-game winning streak into Friday's game.

SERIES HISTORY

  • RIT dropped both regular season games against the Bombers this season. In their first meeting, the Tigers fell 65-62 at home on Jan. 14 before losing 68-53 at Ithaca on Feb. 11.
  • The two programs have met three times in the Liberty League Tournament, with Ithaca having won the last two, including last season's matchup in the quarterfinals. The Tigers defeated Ithaca in the 2017-18 tournament, 68-61, and lost to the Bombers, 75-73 (OT), in 2018-19.
  • RIT also faced Ithaca in the 2016-17 NCAA Division III Tournament, falling to the Bombers in the first round, 65-62.

FOR THE RECORD

  • First-year guard Caroline Henderson has made a program record 71 three-pointers this season. The previous best was 64 by Jessica Glaz in the 2015-16 season.

  • With the quarterfinal win on Tuesday, first-year RIT head coach Melissa Kuberka has won at least one postseason game the past eight seasons. Kuberka has also led her teams to the postseason for nine straight years.

ON THE LINE

  • The winner of this game advances to the tournament final where they will face the winner of the No. 2-seed Vassar/No. 3-seed Skidmore semifinal on Sunday (Mar. 2). The game will be played at the highest remaining seed.
