Women's Volleyball outlasts King's (Pa.), 3-2; falls to host Vassar, 3-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The RIT Women's Volleyball team split a tri-match at Vassar, Saturday, falling to the host Brewers, 3-1 () before outlasting King's (Pa.), 3-2 (25-13, 20-25, 24-26, 25-23, 15-11).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After RIT opened a 10-3 lead in the first set, the teams traded nine points before the Tigers put together a 4-1 surge for an 18-9 lead. King's scored the next three points, but RIT notched seven of the final eight points to take the opener.
  • King's opened a 9-7 lead to start the second, before RIT scored four points for an 11-9 lead. King's retook a 14-12 edge with a 5-1 run, before the Tigers came back to tie the score, 16-16. King's scored six of the next seven points for a 22-17 lead and later scored three of the final four points for the five-point win to even the match.
  • Tied, 5-5, early in the third, RIT built a 10-7 lead with a 5-2 surge. Trailing, 13-10, King's used a 4-1 run to knot the score, 14-14, but the Tigers answered with a 4-1 run for an 18-15 lead. King's battled back to knot the score, 18-18, and later took a 21-20 lead, but RIT scored a 4-1 run for a 24-22 lead. King's fought off two set points and notched back-to-back kills to earn the comeback win.
  • RIT trailed, 7-4, to the start the fourth, but rebounded with a 9-5 run to take a 13-12 lead. Later tied, 18-18, the Tigers scored five of the next seven points to lead, 23-20. King's scored back-to-back points to pull within one, 23-22, but RIT scored two of the final three points to force a deciding fifth set.
  • RIT built an early 7-5 lead in the fifth, but King's pieced together a 5-1 run for a 10-8 lead. The Tigers put the match away with a 7-1 run, including the final five points, to earn the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Vassar jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first set. RIT pulled as close as 10 on four occasion, including 21-11, but Vassar scored the final four points to take the opener.
  • Tied, 6-6, in the second, Vassar scored the next six points for a 12-6 lead. The Tigers scored the next four points to pull back within two, 12-10, but the Brewers rode a 7-4 run to a 19-14 edge. RIT came as close as four, 22-18, before Vassar scored three-straight to take the set.
  • Vassar led, 9-5, in the third before RIT scored three points to pull within on, 9-8. Vassar scored the next seven points to start a 12-2 run for a 21-10 lead. The Tigers scored six of the next seven points to get within six, 22-16, but the Brewers scored the final three points to seal the match.

RIT finishes the season with a tri-match at Fredonia next Saturday (Nov. 8), taking on the host Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m. before facing John Carroll at 1:00 p.m.
