Women's Soccer Opens Season with 2-1 win over Stevens
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT women's soccer team defeated Stevens, 2-1 in the season opener Friday afternoon at Tiger Stadium.
Senior Jessie Gomez netted the game-winner for RIT in the 87th minute for the Tigers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT scored first in the 58th minute with a tap-in goal from senior Olivia Harris off a cross from junior Roberts Moger.
- Stevens drew even with a goal from Lauren Alley in the 71st minute.
- Gomez found herself in space roughly 20 yards out on the left side with a pass from sophomore Nicole Joffee and booted a curling shot to the upper right corner of the goal.
GAME NOTES
- With the goal, Gomez now has four game-winning shots. She scored three game-winners last season.
- In goal, Emily Sanchez, a junior, made five saves in the winning effort for RIT.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Tigers host Mount Saint Mary (NY) tomorrow afternoon in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 3p.m.
