Multiple Tigers land Liberty League weekly honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Four RIT student-athletes and two boats were honored by the Liberty League with weekly accolades, announced Monday (Oct. 14). Senior Sierra Danieu was named the Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week and the women's varsity 8+ boat was named Women's Rowing Boat of the Week.
 
On the men's side junior Derick Koen was the Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week, graduate student Drew Scheib was the Men's Swimmer of the Week, first-year Josh Berty was the Men's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week and the men's varsity 8+ boat was the Men's Rowing Boat of the Week.
 
RIT Varsity 8+ recorded a win in the Collegiate V1 8+ event at the Head of the Genesee, Saturday. The Tigers won in a time of 19:22.710, beating out William Smith (19:46.468) and Rochester (19:55.918). The boat was coxed by junior Claire Schwenke, with junior Jessica Hall, senior Mikaela Simpkinson, sophomore Clara LaChance, senior Sarah Polek, senior Jenna Olivieri, sophomore Erin Getty, senior Arden Conybear, and senior Mia Leone.
 
Danieu crossed the finish line first with a time 21:50.7 at the Highlander Invitational, Saturday, besting the field by nearly 54 seconds. It was her second-straight win after finishing first at the Kara Hall Invitational at Fredonia last Saturday.
 
The Varsity 8+ finished second in the Collegiate V1 8+ race at the Head of the Genesee, Saturday. The Tigers placed second overall in a time of 16:52.688, behind Hamilton (16:30.017). The boat was coxed by sophomore Jackson Blazek, with senior Nicolas Langdon, graduate student Tommy Moore, junior Tyler Emerson, senior Alex Nenadic, first year Tom Kirkham, graduate student Shane Guasteferro, junior Nick Ricotta, and senior Parker Kinsman
 
Koen won the individual title at the Highlander Invitational, Saturday. The junior crossed the finish line with a time of 25:25.6 to win the race for the second-straight year while also leading the Tigers to their second-consecutive team title at the event.

Scheib won two individual events and was on two winning relays to lead RIT to a 197-99 win over RPI, Saturday. Scheib won the 200 Butterfly (1:56.23) and 100 Freestyle (47.27) and swam legs in the winning 200 Medley Relay (1:34.57) and the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:24.87).
 
Berty won two individual events to help the Tigers to a win at RPI, Saturday. Berty won the 1,000 Freestyle (9:59.78) and the 500 Freestyle (4:51.32​) in his first collegiate meet.
