Doucet-Battle situates that politically fraught history within longer standing, and as we shall see, perennial conversations about scientific objectivity, classification, and their ethical intersections with race, class, gender, and power. Doucet-Battle offers a generative space to think critically about the sociocultural interplay between scientific knowledge production and technological innovation; specifically, the ways research networks reveal embedded social obligations to give, receive, and reciprocate, each reflecting complex sets of historical relationships of bioethical consequence.
